With "the viewer" access to new digital adventure worlds

With "the viewer" access to new digital adventure worlds deuromedia, leading provider of broadband solutions software presents its multimedia user interface "the viewer". "the viewer" is a multimedia portal designed to receive digital infotainment contents which can be installed on any computer or TV set with Set-Top box and DVB Card.

The software enables a smooth convergence of TV, PC and Internet contents on one user interface with a unique interactive experience potential for the active user. "the viewer" overcomes the limits of traditional terrestrial access technologies by applying the DVB standard (Digital Video Broadcast) and the ASTRA satellite system in transmitting multimedia contents to the household screen, thus allowing access to a new dimension of digital and personalised infotainment.

"the viewer" paves the way to a new multimedia world which combines the transmission quality of digital TV with the interactivity of Internet. By applying satellites to transmit multimedia contents we on the one hand overcome the bottlenecks currently prevailing on the data highways of the World Wide Web, and on the other we are in a position to provide infotainment offers tuned to our clients' specific requirements free house via the ASTRA satellites in order to funnel the flow of data", as Dieter Weber, deuromedia Managing Director, describes the situation.

"We regard ourselves as trend-setters for a technological revolution in the future multimedia landscape by promoting the distribution of the DVB standard and the convergence of TV and Internet. The user is given a new experience potential at the PC or TV - free-to-air, without additional costs".

Today's ASTRA satellites feature the bandwidth required to realise high-speed Internet. As a result of the data transmission capacity of a satellite with 38 Mbit/s the Internet bottleneck is overcome, when multimedia applications, such as video, TV or radio etc. are called off.

To curb the information overkill the user has the active option to compose individual "the viewer" contents by tuning these to his/her own requirements. According to the broadcasting principle the selected contents are automatically updated, managed via "the viewer" and presented in a structured form. The user can currently select among 250 cost-free digital radio and television programs, 500 newsgroups, 500 top Internet sites and in future among web channels offering news, telelearning, e-commerce and entertainment contents.
