Merzig, 18th August 2000 - deuromedia - the viewer company, pioneer for the infotainment age and BetaResearch, the technology company of KirchGroup have entered into a strategic partnership: together, the two companies are working on solutions enabling the convergence of TV and Internet. Regarding to the encryption system of BetaResearch the representation of encrypted services (PayTV, BusinessTV) will be able on the PC using "the viewer" platform from deuromedia.

Every content in every medium

Traditional information channels like TV, radio and PC will converge, creating added value for the user. deuromedia and BetaResearch now provide the first solutions that combine the transmission quality of television with the interactiveness of the Internet. The success of services such as this is due to the standardisation of technical broadcast platforms and the harmonisation of application interfaces. Early stages of the new infotainment age can already be seen on the PC with the installation of a DVB receiver card: FreeTV, broadband Internet and streaming media services via cable or satellite. deuromedia provides the expertise for transmission, handling and reception in broadband format. "We have found a strong partner for the development of set-top boxes and encryption technology in BetaResearch," is how deuromedia CEO Dieter Weber explains the participation of BetaResearch.

Business TV makes a start

"This way we open an additional opportunity to be able to represent all our services encrypted with our CA-System on the television set as well as on the PC. This will open interesting opportunities in BusinessTV", says Gerrit Huy, chairman of the BetaResearch board.
