Deuromedia presents "the viewer plug-in" for the internet for the first time at IBC 2000

Amsterdam, 08th August 2000 - A Mercedes in Manhattan, the german national football team with mobile phones in the changing room and Langnese ice cream on the beach - these are all images from awarding-winning promotion films by PetersenNaumannAG. Until now it has only been possible to see complex promotion films of this sort on TV. The "viewer plug-in", the cutting-edge software from deuromedia, now allows this content to be viewed at broadcast quality on the web.

'viewpro', utilising the latest hardware from Philips, and "the viewer plug-in", the new development for internet TV, are to be introduced at IBC 2000/Amsterdam at the Philips (Hall 8, Stand 170) and ASTRA (Hall 1, Stand 450) stands. The content shown will be provided by PetersenNaumannAG, one of the most innovative advertising film agencies in Europe, and will be streamed to the website via satellite.

TV, internet, radio and multimedia are converging. deuromedia's software solutions enable a seamless integration of all digital data channels. Web surfers can select the content they want to see. When the content is requested, the appropriate software is automatically activated so that the desired content can be called up, regardless of whether it is TV, radio or multimedia application.

Only the content counts: a browser is all you need
Since NAB 2000 the convergence of the media has been an important issue. In the past deuromedia has used DVB-standard and the satellite transmission technology to achieve the convergence of conventional media such as TV, radio and internet. '"the viewer plug-in" represents the next step: the prerequisites for receiving TV, radio or multimedia content of digital broadband quality are an ordinary browser and a DVB card. The deuromedia solutions are already providing the instruments today which will enable users to benefit from new and faster transmission rates in the future.

deuromedia - solutions work in the background
After the successful introduction of deuromedia's 'the viewer' software at the beginning of the year, the internet version '"the viewer plug-in" is now being launched. This communication software for the transmission of digital data and multimedia content will be presented for the first time at IBC. The full version will be available from December 2000. This software makes it possible to call up file transfers and audio and videostreams from the website of the content supplier. By clicking on the website the DVB card is activated and the availability of the plug-ins is verified. After downloading, the plug-in starts automatically by selecting a programme or an application. Thus all the standard formats such as MPEG-1, MPEG-4 and MP3 can be processed, as well as MPEG-2 and other formats if the corresponding hardware is available.

Digital TV in the internet at a click

"the 'viewer plug-in" and the publicity films provided by PetersenNaumannAG allow digital films in broadcast quality to be accessed through the web for the first time. PetersenNaumannAG, one of the most innovative production companies for advertising films, feature films, production services and post production, will make its digital content available for the first time on the web at IBC in Amsterdam. The advertising films can be called up using a DVB card on the following sites:
http://www.theviewer.de/BETA/ and http://www.PetersenNaumann.com . In the future the two companies plan to use this technology to integrate advertising films into the internet.

A double appearance at IBC

In addition to the internet version, "the viewer plug-in", deuromedia, is joining forces with Philips and exhibiting the intranet solution for the business sector. Based on the leading-edge hardware from Philips, the SAT router, different content can be accessed through the individual access privileges of each terminal. This arrangement of hardware and software will be presented for the first time at IBC. The complete solution will be demonstrated at the Philips stand (Hall 8, Stand 170). Visitors will have the opportunity to experience and test the options for application in the business sector through an illustrative example.

The internet version, "the viewer plug-in" will be presented for the first time at the ASTRA stand (Hall 1, Stand 450).
