Philips and deuromedia demonstrate latest
CA technology at NAB
Philips Digital Networks and German-based software solution
provider deu-romedia are demonstrating new conditional access
technology features for content owners on the Philips booth
at NAB2001.
NAB2001, Las Vegas, 23th April 2001 - Philips Digital Networks
and deuromedia are combining their expertise in conditional
access (CA) and content scheduling in a demonstration on the
Philips booth at NAB2001. The two companies announced a co-operation
agreement at last year's IBC to combine Philips' IP-DVB gateway
and router technology with deuromedia's content scheduling
management software to provide fast and reliable broadband
access of satellite services to network operators and service
providers. This co-operation has now been extended to CA,
an area where Philips has proven success through its CryptoWorks
product line, a fast-growing, state-of-the-art CA system in
the pay-TV domain, and deuromedia with its content scheduling
software platform.
The demonstration at NAB2001 comprises Philips' IP Multicast
MPEG-4 encoder with deuromedia's 'viewmanage' and 'viewmotion'
software at the source side; be-tween, Philips' latest CryptoWorks
release 3.1 CA system and security gateway scheduler for content
encryption; and a Philips' MPEG-4 player with deuromedia's
'the viewer' at the receiving side. Among other key benefits,
this combined offer pro-vides content owners, service providers
and network operators with even greater assurance of content
protection through an IP-DVB gateway.
Specific additional features of Philips' CryptoWorks 3.1
release include faster con-tent throughput, improved enquiry/search
facility, a smaller hardware platform (from five to only one
19-inch unit) and new key management functions. The strength
of the deuromedia broadcasting platform is the combination
of the interactivity of the Internet with the power of broadcasting.
So, this solution guarantee a high quality output, time-accurate
data arrival as well as Quality of Services.
Jan Eveleens, general manager of the CryptoTec business line
at Philips Digital Networks, commented at NAB: "This
demonstration illustrates how rapidly we are advancing CA
technology. Partnering with companies like deuromedia helps
us to maintain our reputation as a leading supplier of superior
CA solutions to the increas-ing number of broadcasters, content
owners and network operators throughout the world."
deuromedia's CEO, Dieter Weber, agreed with this, and added:
"NAB2001 is the ideal opportunity to demonstrate our
latest content scheduling technology. deu-romedia's End to
End System allows everybody to be 'on air' in the most easiest
way via broadband media. Doing so together with Philips brings
a powerful CA solu-tion of especial use to cable operators
who now have available one box for com-bined IP and DVB."
