BetaDigital offers broadband satellite transmissions using deuromedia's software platform

By acquiring the license for deuromedia's IP Multicast Technology the company can access applications on the ip-sat Network®

Munich, Germany, February 8th 2002 - BetaDigital, a pioneer of digital TV in Germany, has for years been known for providing top quality picture and sound broadcasting, as well as high speed, highly secure, data transmissions. Its product portfolio, which centres on the existing broadcasting field for the Kirch Group, has now been extended through deuromedia's IP Multicast Platform (IP = Internet Protocol).

deuromedia's software enables it to offer an innovative solution for IP-based broadband data transmissions. The platform makes it possible to transmit different formats, such as video, audio and data, quickly and securely via satellite through multicasting. Here, the individual modules of the total solution offer a complete transmission concept from sender to receiver, making it easy and uncomplicated to send large quantities of data.

The combination of broadband satellite transmission and the IP transmission standard used throughout the world is a guarantee for swift data services, with which large quantities of data can be addressed and sent to different receivers. The benefits of this technology are obvious. Digital content from conventional information channels, such as TV, radio and the Internet, are intermingled and the transmission quality of digital television is combined with the interactivity of the Internet.

By using the deuromedia software platform, BetaDigital has created the basis for a new range of transmission services. "We are already in intensive talks with content providers who are extremely interested in the potential of addressed dispatch of large quantities of data to transmit content such as films, presentations or databases via a fast broadband medium. There is a wide range of possible applications and ideas for new interactive concepts can be easily realised", is how Werner Litza, Director Sales & Marketing at BetaDigital explained the decision to opt for the IP multicast technology.

"As one of the leading service providers of satellite transmissions, BetaDigital has an extensive range of know-how and up-to-date technical facilities. We're therefore delighted that our product range has proved so successful here", enthused Bernhard Müller, deuromedia's Vice President of Sales, in his comment on BetaDigital's decision.
