deuromedia releases End to End solution
for the Cable Headend
New platform component provides extremely fast and efficient
information services to Set-Top-Boxes.
The deuromedia Data Broadcasting Platform (DBP) enables managed
broadcasting of digital content over a variety of broadband
IP networks like Cable-TV-Networks (DVB-c), Satellite (DVB-s),
or terrestrial broadcast (DVB-t). The standard platform has
now be enriched by a new service, which enables IP data broadcast
over Cable-TV-Networks or satellites to standard Set-Top-Boxes.
The new service enables cable operators to create and offer
value added information services to consumers and open up
new revenue sources by providing data transmission channels
to Content providers.
The application includes software packages for all players
in the data broadcasting chain: Content Provider, Service
Provider (head-end) and Consumer. The Content Provider prepares,
selects and sends the content over the Internet to the head-end.
Therefore deuromedia created some easy to handle tools, which
automate the content generation and transfer. At the head-end
the deuromedia Data Broadcast Platform (DBP) creates the data
carousels and overhands the streams to the required DVB-components
to be broadcast in the Cable TV Network. On the Consumer side
the content is received by a brand DVB-C Set-Top-Box (STB)
and displayed on the TV set.
Two different types of content are broadcasted:
- Pictures which contain advertisements and are displayed
as a classic slide show e.g. on the start and stop of the
STB.
- HTML formatted information, used for displaying news,
standard information or premium EPG data over the internal
STB browser. This information is organized in one or more
information portals.
The information is organized in Content Provider specific
channels and broadcast in data carousels. A channel is described
by the type of content, the broadcast schedule the bandwidth
and a subscriber group. At the consumer site the STB reads
the content directly from the data carousel.
Already in use by some major German companies, the deuromedia
Data Broadcasting Platform (DBP) represents a powerful software
suite, enabling rapid and the efficient transfer of large
data volumes to the Consumer.
