deuromedia develops intelligent set top box application

Based on deuromedia's unique knowledge and deep software expertise the new set top box is among the first in the market to include digital video recording, video on demand and Internet functionalities.

The intelligent set top box is the result of deuromedia's partnerships with major German hardware manufacturers.

The new set top box provides easy access to all available free-to-air digital TV channels including a multitude of functions to enhance and maximize the entertainment capabilities. This includes recording, scheduled recording and time shift functions by using the internal hard disk capacity as well as the reception of video on demand services.

The system allows standard Internet services like web browsing and e-mail. Good news for everybody who doesn't want to switch to his PC to read the headlines or respond to a family email message.

The system offers advanced functions like an easy to use on-screen electronic program guide (EPG). The Guide incorporates standard "now and next" program information together with detailed program guide information provided by the leading German TV Guide.

Besides the capability of watching IP TV, the intelligent set top box also enables consumers to play DVDs or CDs and listen to audio tracks, no matter in what format they come. In addition to that users can play games or watch the photos of their digital camera on the TV set.

The new set top box incorporates a Via Eden 1 GHz PC processor, 128 MB RAM and a stunning 80 GB hard disk drive for recording over 40 hours of digital broadcast quality. The system is equipped with a DVB-s card, a LAN interface and uses Linux as Operating System.
